IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR FRIENDS ON THIS SITE JUST E-MAIL A LITTLE INFORMATION AND A PICTURE. IF YOUR PICTURE ON THIS PAGE IS NOT RECENT WE WOULD LOVE A NEW UPDATED ONE.

Shelly came to live with us at the end of May, 2007. I took Shelly home a week after I starting volunteering at the shelter. She is "my cat". We have a special connection. She meows from the headboard of the bed in the morning to get me up. She knows I don't like to get up in the a.m. and she is very persistent. Every morning, I have to turn on the water facet for her to drink. I love my Shelly. Michelle

My little tuxedo cat formally known as Wally. I adopted him last September 2007 and he has become the newest member to my family. My parents, who never had a cat love him as do my puppies. Steven has adjusted well!

In October of 2003 we were happy to adopt Mikey from your shelter. Who was just a kitten at the time. Since then he adjusted well with his brother and is a joy.  In November of 2007 we adopted another cat  from your shelter whom we call Jade. Mikey and Jade are becoming very close. As you can see from the pictures. We love them all. Christine and G

Gem - Cozy in her new home.

We adopted her in Mid-January 2007 and she settled in quickly. We call her Pippy and she chases her brothers around the house despite the fact that they are all twice her size.

Last year we adopted two kittens from you, brothers we could not bear to separate (Kyran & Kyle on 8-27-06). Their names are now Bo & Buster. I am biased, but I think they are the best kittens in the world. The caretaker at your facility knew these kittens well in saying they were personable. They are so very affectionate and tolerant, impossible not to love!!! My kids go nuts over the cats and not only do they tolerate it, they seem to love it. The kids are always picking them up to hug them and the cats just melt into their arms content to relax and purr. Everyone who comes in our home is enchanted by them, especially Bo. I cannot imagine getting better cats that are a better fit. Thank you for sharing them with us. -   Jonathan

Read Sam’s story in our Spring 2006 newsletter. She had quite adventure from a confrontation with a popcupine. She is now settling into her new home and her adventures with popcupines are finally over.

We at AFOC are very happy that Twinkles finally found a home. She was in the shelter for years before being adopted. When channel 30 did a story on our injured strays one member went to our site and just fell in love with her. We always hope that we can place our friends and this just proves that no matter how long they are at our shelter it is possible. These are pictures of her working hard guarding the couch and her blanket. - Joe

An undate on Henry (now Stewey) -- adopted May '05

Stewey is a new wonderful member of my family! He's my back-up alarm clock. Every morning when my alarm clock goes off, Stewey will jump up on the bed, sit on my chest, and kneed my face until I get up. Thankfully, he does it with his claws in....usually. Every day he's sitting at the door when I come home, and doesn't let me out of his sight 'til I fall asleep. He's gotten much bigger (and much smarter) in the few months I've had him. He's now tall enough to flip light switches, and can almost turn doorknobs. Always entertaining! Stewey now also has a little brother (Norman) that he just adores.

I just wanted to update you on Sphinx (aka Bob at the shelter). I had been providing foster care for a friend's cat, when eventually they were able to take him back. Missing my furry friend dearly I came to AFOC to hopefully find a cat of my very own. As soon as Sphinx was plopped in my arms I knew he was the cat for me. He just wouldn't stop purring!! He has adjusted very well after coming home in early June and pretty much owns the place. He is extremely rambunctious and energetic, which I love dearly. He is always making me laugh with his entertaining antics. I'm very happy that I found him, and I think he's pretty happy to have found me. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!!...Trish

The black/blue and white baby is "Boo" and the yellow and white baby is "Reni". Long names are Boobalicous and Tangerine. We love them to death and they tell us they couldn't have found a better home. - Paula

We adopted Poppy on Dec. 19th 2005 and as you can see he is doing great and is right at home. His favorite spot is on the kitchen counter in the fruit bowl. He gets along great with our 3 other cats especially his buddy Zuna, they are truly inseparable. We thought when we first brought him home that he might have some difficulties running or jumping up onto things because he only has one eye, boy did he prove us wrong! He is one of the most lovable and affectionate cats we have ever had. I have a hair salon in my home and Poppy loves to hang out and greet all my customers when they walk through the door. Everyone that meets him just loves him. Just want to say thank you so much for bringing Poppy into our lives, we love him soooooo much!!!         Diane & Vinny

Bjorn(formerly Snowball) is definetely determined not to have his picture take. Before I can click, he's right back at my feet dropping his toy for me to toss again. He is a playful clown who loves dragging his "fishing pole" toy around, especially at night. Very affectionate, too, and he makes sure he is noticed by positioning himself at my feet as I try to walk, and if I stand for a moment he probably will be rolling over my feet!  -   Jean

Pearl was rescued after having two sets of kittens and almost dying from dehydration. If it wasn’t for AFOC helping me rescue her and her kittens she would not be with me today. She is the sweetest cat and even though she is not comfortable around other people she is loving and affectionate. One summer we adopted a grey tabby named Paula from AFOC. We changed Paula's name to Nani which means beautiful in Hawaiian in honor of or honeymoon. She is very happy living with us and we're very happy living with her. She is a bundle of energy and trouble. After a bumpy start our other cat learned to enjoy her company too and they spend hours chasing and playing together. We love her very much and thank you for allowing us to adopt her.  Nani is the grey tabby. The large grey cat is Sterling.

Atticus(formally Chad) is doing great. His favorite thing is sitting in the window. He gets along with the other cats and are always getting into trouble together.Stacey P.

.Our "kittens" are now 4 months old and looking like cats! They have thrived beyond belief and are now into every corner of our home. They are intrigued by everything from a raindrop on the slider to the raffia on the Christmas tree! Tonight they found the LARGE quilted stocking to be quite the treat. I thought you'd find it "fun" as well. Merry Christmas from New Hartford. Peace, Bill, Theresa, "Thimbu", "Johann Sebastian" and "Gretchen" (Little Pearl).

Joseph tells us that it has been five years now since Onyx was adopted and he is still spoiled but well worth it. In these pictures he is doing his favorite activities. He has his own DVD about squirrels and birds or he could watch the birds feed at the feeder. Onyx reports that life is good.

Here are my first pix of Frieda and Gus. She is having a ball, is very smart, and actually is getting Gus back to his own roots as a real dog, not just a people toy. Frieda is well on her way to paper training and already understands what dogs do outside, thanks to Gus as role model. She's got lots of space, outdoors and in, and once a day I take her down to our back yard for play in the grass, which she loves and explores. Yesteday she discovered the garden hose, running at the slightest trickle, which she of course attacked over and over. Just yesterday she started to bark for the first time, when Gus took away her fav. chew toy.As of today, Wed., May 12th, she weighs about 4.36 pound. That's about twice since we got her.Gene Kahn.

Smeagol(formally Troy) is doing very well! Smeagol and Fara, my dog, I'm happy to say have become great friends...they play together everyday. He is still on his heart medication, but is off the asthma meds because he is doing much better. Everyone that meets him absolutely loves him! I couldn't have asked for a better cat. They were both given matching sweatshirts for x-mas so I had to take a picture of it. Thanks again!Harley

I adopted the blind kitten you called Willa, who is now called Willow. She is doing well, and enjoying herself as she plays with the other three cats. She loves to give me a bath (I think she may’ve been separated from her mother too soon). She eats almost anything and cheerfully cleans up the plates of the others – sometimes under their noses. It’s not immediately apparent but she’s almost twice the size she was.

After being neutered and spending a few months in solitary at the shelter Clyde, fka Sebastian was adopted for 6 weeks and returned.  He is a bit of a handful. His human came to the shelter looking for an outgoing cat and was so lucky to find him. He is a joy!   Clyde has 6 toes on 3 paws and 7 on the 4th. His paws are very oversized. They are his outstanding feature. This handsome fellow now has his own site dedicated to him. http://members.aol.com/clydesadvice/members/clydepg3.htm..

Willie (a.k.a.Leo) came into my life on January 29th. I am a volunteer at the AFOC shelter and as soon as his head butted me I fell head over heels in love with him. I already have four cats at home and so I asked my mother if she was interested in adopting this wonderful kitten. All it took was a visit to make Willie a permanent part of her household. He is now king of the castle and, at the same time, the most loving kitten. I call my mother daily so I’m lucky to hear the newest Willie antic. He loves settling in her lap and purring. He also snuggles under her chin when she’s reclining. Willie is as energetic as he is loving. He has also taken over her pillow at night.  He must know how much he is adored by all of us. I want to thank the woman who rescued Willie from the parking lot of Home Depot in West Hartford. I am also grateful to Dr. Knack and his staff at the Wethersfield Animal Hospital who performed surgery to remove Willie’s damaged eye and then nursed him back to health. Another round of thanks the many volunteers who work hard to provide a loving shelter to all the abandoned animals. I feel honored and privileged to be part of the Animal Friends family.    Lori  Avon CT

Angel(formerly Skye) was adopted August 2002 and joined a home with 2 other cats who welcomed him to the family pretty quickly. He is now the “boss” and is still the most lovable we’ve ever had!. Here is the “boss” with his women.  Writes Jacki & Tommy of Southington.

Hobbes was just a kitten when he was adopted but was given human medicine and almost died. He was left with a permanent medical condition and was returned to AFOC. He stayed at the shelter a year till someone opened their heart to this special needs kitty and gave him a home.

.Snow(formerly Angel) was featured in our newsletter. Her new human Crystal knew that she was the perfect cat for her.

Smokey was rescued from a VET who recommended he be put to sleep. He has only one eye but still is a very playful kitty.

Shadow was adopted at 10 weeks old is here with Sunny. They are doing great and are like sisters.

Abby writes that she is in a very happy home(and has put on a little weight).

Timothy was featured in our newsletter because of all his medical problems due to abuse. AFOC didn’t give up on him and he is in a wonderful home and is doing fine.

Jake and Kilo were adopted and are great friends

Annie was in the shelter five years and then was adopted but because her owner had to be hospitalized she was back at the shelter. This time her stay was shorter and was adopted again and we are so happy for her.

Dolly was born in the woods behind a apartment complex. She charmed the tenants but was very difficult to catch(it took 3 months!). When she was finally rescued she had a fever and was near death. She is doing fine now and is a typical kitten even with her handicap. Dolly was one of eleven kittens who also found a homes.

Pandora was the pet of the week three times. She was at the shelter a long time and we at AFOC were not giving up. The third time was a charm and she is in a new home and is doing fine.
