Sponsor A Pet

Adopting a cat not in your near future, but love animals.
Why not sponsor a pet?

We have many cats that are not adoptable or hard to adopt. We are looking for sponsors who are willing to sponsor a rescue cat by help covering the cost of food, litter, and basic medical care.  Our goal is to sponsor every cat till they are adopted. With this sponsorship we will have additional funds for emergency care. As a pet sponsor you will receive:

 1. A card and picture from your chosen cat.

 2. Periodic personal notes from your special resident.

3. Your name listed on our site as a sponsor with his or hers picture(If you wish to remain anonymous that is ok too.)

4. A letter if your friend is adopted.

5. A tax deduction.

6. The knowledge that you have made a difference in a abandon cat’s life

Below are some of our shelter residents that are in our Sponsorship program.

Aleesha is a beautiful Calico who unfortunately very few people at the shelter get to see. She is one of the most eluding cats. She has been at the shelter since April of 1998. She is too frightened to be considered adoptable.

They came the same time as Tinsel.

Dante is one handsome fellow. He was adopted but his owner became sick and he was returned after a few months. He has been at the shelter since. He is so shy that he hides when someone new comes in the shelter. It was only after five visits would he let me just talk to him. He will run if you try to pet him or get too close. He and Owen have been at the shelter for the same duration and are very close. They are about the same age(each born 2001) and AFOC would like them to stay together.

Diane was born in May of 1999 and came to the shelter that June. She is one more of our longtime residents. She was adopted once, but was so frightened she hid all the time. The caretaker and the director were called to the house and crawl around under the furniture. When she realized who the caretaker was she came out to be petted. She was so happy to be back at the shelter with her friends.

Fern is very friendly with people and will let you pet her. She loves treats. Fern was adopted and was returned. Sometimes the cats get too comfortable with the other cats at the shelter and can’t handle leaving. She came to the shelter May 2001. This is why when we get adult cats at the shelter we hope we can find them homes soon. Fern is a perfect example. She is now considered non-adoptable. She did not handle being adopted well.

This fellow peeked out just in time for this volunteer to take this picture. Joe was found in Goodwin Park on July of 1995. He was only a kitten then and has been at the shelter since. He is unfortunately another one of our frightened kittens that never was selected for adoption because he is so illusive. Joe(like Stacey) took a long time even just for them to show themselves.

Mama Tina came to the shelter June of 2003 and had a set of kittens. She was not selected for adoption for over a year. She was returned and the volunteers at the shelter cannot understand why. She is sweet and will let them put her on their laps. We still haven’t given up hope, but it is very possible that she just feels safe at the shelter and doesn’t wish to leave. We are hoping that is not the case. If she should bond with someone special we know she would be a very loving pet.

Owen is a very calm cat. He is quite and shy. It will take a few visits before he will let you pet him, but not on the head.  He is not as frightened as some of the other cats and does like to have his stomach rubbed. Because it will take a few visits to get to know him it is unlikely he will be adopted. He and Dante are like brothers and need each other. He was born July 2001. He also has a real brother Leroy who he is also very attached too. He has such a sad face.

Satin had her kittens in October of 2003. Her kittens were adopted but she was not so lucky. She is over 3 years old and is quiet but friendly. She does well with other mild cats and has been at the shelter since. Her being so bashful we believe is why she is still not adopted. She loves looking out the shelter window.

Timmy was adopted with his brother Ted but Timmy was too upset and was returned. We believe he missed Toby. We are asking that they go together. They will need a special person that will have the patience and understanding to help them with adjusting to a new home. They are terrible shy cats and even with the most patient person after his first experience he may never be adopted.

Toby came to us in April of 2003 when he was just a kitten. During his stay he became very attached to Fletcher. Fletcher wasn’t expected to live beyond a few weeks. AFOC did not have the heart to separate Toby II and Fletcher. Toby II has become a little bashful. He missed his chance of being adopted because of his attachment to Fletcher. Toby must be a special cat because now Ursa is totally attached to him. He is a handsome slender fellow.
