Sponsor A Pet

Adopting a cat not in your near future, but love animals.
Why not sponsor a pet?

We have many cats that are not adoptable or hard to adopt. We are looking for sponsors who are willing to sponsor a rescued cat by help covering the cost of food, litter, and basic medical care. With this sponsorship program we will have additional funds for emergency care. As a pet sponsor you will receive:

 1. A card and picture from your chosen cat.

 2. Periodic personal notes from your special resident.

3. Your name listed on our site as a sponsor with his or hers picture(If you wish to remain anonymous that is OK too.)

4. A letter if your friend is adopted.

5. A tax deduction.

6. The knowledge that you have made a difference in a abandon cat’s life

Below are our shelter residents that are in our Sponsorship program.

Angel is one frightened cat. She has taken a long time to adjust to the shelter. She has been at the shelter since 2005.

Buddy Boy was born 3/2002 and is a permanent resident of the shelter. His experience on the streets made him a very frightened cat. He can only be handled by the caretaker. He trusts her enough to sit on her lap. He has improved and does not hide when visitors enter the room. His trust was a long time to establish.

Cara is very close to her brother & sister. They have been together since birth. Because of this should be adopted together. They are shy and will need a special person that can give them the love and patience they need to adjust.

Cara has a Sponsor!

Thank You Kathleen from Simsbury, Ct.

Charlie is a timid black cat with two small white spots. He has been at the shelter since 2001. Being so shy as a kitten proved to be unfortunate because he has never been selected for adoption. He will let the caretaker pet him only when it is dinner time. He likes to butt heads with  Zorro, Samantha & Dante.

Charlie has a Sponsor!

Thank You Laura from E.Hampton, Ct. !

Connie is a beautiful tortie unfortunately no one ever gets to pet her. She is frightened and she stays her distance. She will only eat one kind of treat. She does stay about 3 feet from you for that treat. Otherwise she hides. She was born about February 2001. She also has been at the shelter a long time.

Connie has a Sponsor!

Thank you Rosanne from W.Htfd, Ct.

Dante is one handsome fellow especially his amber eyes. He was adopted but his owner became sick and he was returned after a few months. He has been at the shelter since. He is so shy that he hides when someone new comes in the shelter. It was only after five visits would he let me just talk to him. He will run if you try to pet him or get too close.

Thank You Peggy from Gales Ferry,Ct.

Delilah and Mae surprised everyone by coming out of their shell and becoming close. They are inseparable .  Delilah who is very shy came to us December of 2006. Now that they have each other they enjoy watching the birds together and have become a little more at ease. They are doing better and hopefully will someone who understands them and give them a home.

Thank You Penny from Vernon, Ct.

Dora was rescued in the summer of 2001 in a apartment complex in Newington. Dora and Dante are from the same litter of seven. Like her brother she is too frightened to be considered for adoption. Dora is very vocal when it comes time to eat.

Fletcher was a terminal ill kitten that AFOC was told by the vet he was not expected to last a year. But we have been lucky to have him with us for many years. At his last check up the vet he said is doing great. He likes the attention of the volunteers. He is the dominate male in his room. He has the softest meow like a kitten.

Fletcher has a Sponsor!

Thank You Bertha from Windsor, Ct.

Flint was born October 2003 and is a gray tiger. She is shy but  lively. Flint and Satin are becoming the best of friends.  Flint will get along with other cats. Flint has been at the shelter since she was a kitten but has not been selected for adoption because she is shy and will not let you pick her up. As you can see from the picture she has grown up.

Francisca is one cat you will not be able to see. This is the only photo we have been able to get of her. She is quite comfortable with cats but not with humans. She was born 5-01.

Fury is a all black cat that came to the shelter in 1999. He was born in June of that year. Except for the volunteers who feed him no one can get near him because he hides in the funniest places.

Hannah and her three sisters were abandoned on the porch of a business. When the owner came to work in the morning, he found the four of them, terrified, in a box. The man called us, and we brought them to our shelter after we were sure they were healthy. One of the kittens was adopted very quickly. The three others, Hannah, Hayley and Heidi, remain available. She has been her for over a year now and her chances of being adopted are slim. After some initial shyness, she is very friendly with people. She purrs all the time and likes to be held and petted. She prefers a quiet environment, so a home with children is probably not appropriate. One of her favorite activities is looking out the window, bird watching. The three girls are very attached to each other, so it would be good if they could be adopted together. But any one of them would make an excellent pet in their forever home.

Thank You Richard from Hartford, Ct.       In memory of “Sara”

Hayley is the friendlest of all the sisters. She could be adopted alone, but has not been selected. She loves a certain kind of food which she is given as a treat. When this happens she runs for the dish.

Hayley has a Sponsor!

Thank You Richard from Hartford, Ct.     In memory of “Sara”

Heidi is the shyest of the sisters, but she is also the one who is most likely to run after string and toys. She would have to be adopted with one of the sisters to do well.

Heidi has a Sponsor!

Thank you Sean and Leah from Ontario,Canada

Jacob has been at the shelter since the spring of 2006. He is a very handsome tiger. He needs all the attention. The volunteers at the shelter are working with Jacob about his manners. He plays rough and we believe he just doesn’t know any better. He does know what gets him treats! Jacob does nip and will probably not get adopted because of this. It is unfortunate because he does get along with other cats(only females!).

  Thank You Marianne from N. Y., N.Y.

Joseph picks his moments when he wants human attention and then he does the I would rather be alone act. He has this funny habitat of liking to lick the volunteers hair. He is one of our senior residents.

Judy is a little friendlier than her sister Kristy. They were born October of 2003. They have not been selected for adoption because they are bashful. They have been at the shelter since birth and really need a home. They should go together and this may be another reason why they are still at the shelter. They are sweet and friendly after a while, but need someone with a little patience and a lot of love.

Michele was rescued when she was expecting kittens. She is so shy that for months she would just sit in the cage(with the door open) and never come out. She has put on a little weight and is a full figure girl now. She is on a diet, but does know enough to approach the volunteers for treats. She has improved greatly but will still will run into the cage when a new volunteer comes into the room.

Omar is a orange tabby who was just a kitten when he was rescued. He has been here since April 2004. When he first came here he was seriously ill and has since recovered but because of his illness missed the socialization needed when he was a kitten.  He will run when some one comes into the room. The caretaker believes he is not adoptable. He is just too frightened. Playful with other cats and likes catnip mice.

Satin had her kittens in October of 2003. Her kittens were adopted but she was not so lucky. She is quiet but friendly. She does well with other mild cats and has been at the shelter since. Her being so bashful we believe is why she is still not adopted. She loves looking out the shelter window.

Spice has been at the shelter a long time. She was found being stoned in the North End of Hartford when she was rescued. She is very frightened because of the abuse she received when she was on the streets. Her favorite toy is a furry  leopard color mouse, She does run to the door to greet the caretaker when she enters the room, but only a few volunteers have the privilege of petting her.

Stacey is a grey and white long hair tiger who has a most unusual hiding place. There is a set of drawers in the room and she hides in one of the drawers. She never comes out to see visitors because she is so frightened. To take this picture I had visited the shelter for over a year before I actually was able see this pretty girl. She has been at the shelter since 10/2000.

Timmy was adopted with his brother Ted but Timmy was too upset and was returned. We believe he missed Toby. We are asking that they go together. They will need a special person that will have the patience and understanding to help them with adjusting to a new home. They are terrible shy cats and even with the most patient person after his first experience he may never be adopted.

Thank you Heather from Agawam, Ma.

Toby is a DSH male who was born last May 2003. He is all white except a gray spot on his head. We were lucky to get this picture, he usually is hiding behind the cages. He is so shy that he would need a special person to bring him out of his shell.  Toby and Timmy are brothers.

TOBY HAS A SPONSOR!

From a Friend!

Toby came to us in April of 2003 when he was just a kitten. During his stay he became very attached to Fletcher. Fletcher wasn’t expected to live beyond a few weeks. AFOC did not have the heart to separate Toby II and Fletcher. Toby II has become a little bashful. He missed his chance of being adopted because of his attachment to Fletcher. Who by the way is still going strong! Toby is a handsome slender fellow.

ZORRO was rescued after some kids were trying to shoot him with BB guns, but then he was trapped and neutered at only eight weeks old. He has never recovered from that experience. He will not let you pet him(although he  does take treats from the volunteers). It took this volunteer three years before he would let me pet him.
