Sponsor A Pet

Adopting a cat not in your near future, but love animals.
Why not sponsor a pet?

We have many cats that are not adoptable or hard to adopt. We are looking for sponsors who are willing to sponsor a rescue cat by help covering the cost of food, litter, and basic medical care.  Our goal is to sponsor every cat till they are adopted. With this sponsorship we will have additional funds for emergency care. As a pet sponsor you will receive:

 1. A card and picture from your chosen cat.

 2. Periodic personal notes from your special resident.

3. Your name listed on our site as a sponsor with his or hers picture(If you wish to remain anonymous that is ok too.)

4. A letter if your friend is adopted.

5. A tax deduction.

6. The knowledge that you have made a difference in a abandon cat’s life

Below are some of our shelter residents that are in our Sponsorship program.

ZORRO was rescued after some kids were trying to shoot him with BB guns, but then he was trapped and neutered at only eight weeks old. He has never recovered from that experience. He will not let you pet him(although he  does take treats from the volunteers)

Dante is one handsome fellow. He was adopted but his owner became sick and he was returned after a few months. He has been at the shelter since. He is so shy that he hides when someone new comes in the shelter. It was only after five visits would he let me just talk to him. He will run if you try to pet him or get too close. He and Owen have been at the shelter for the same duration and are very close. They are about the same age(2 years) and AFOC would like them to stay together.

Thank You Peggy from Gales Ferry,Ct.

Owen is a very calm cat. He is quite and shy. It will take a few visits before he will let you pet him. He is not as frightened as some of the other cats and does like to have his stomach rubbed. Because it will take a few visits to get to know him it is unlikely he will be adopted. He and Dante are like brothers and need each other. He is about 2 1/2 years old. He also has a real brother Leroy who he is also very attached too.

Fern is very friendly with people and will let you pet her. She loves treats. Fern was adopted and was returned. Sometimes the cats get too comfortable with the other cats at the shelter and can’t handle leaving. She came to the shelter May 2001. This is why when we get adult cats at the shelter we hope we can find them homes soon. Fern is a perfect example. She is now considered non-adoptable. She did not handle being adopted well.

Tinsel was born late October 2003, but was considered not adoptable because she had became ill. She  has now been given a clean bill of health. She is playful and occasionally will entertain the volunteers. She gets along with the other cats and would be available for adoption for the right home.

Mama Tina came to the shelter June of 2003 and had a set of kittens. She was not selected for adoption for over a year. She was returned and the volunteers at the shelter cannot understand why. She is sweet and will let them put her on their laps. We still haven’t given up hope, but it is very possible that she just feels safe at the shelter and doesn’t wish to leave. We are hoping that is not the case. If she should bond with someone special we know she would be a very loving pet.

Jerry is a handsome gray cat that gets along with other mild cats. He is friendly with humans. He has been at the shelter since January. Jerry will be hard to place because he was traumatize by his abandonment. He took months to adjust to his new environment and was quite depressed for the first few months. His placement would have to be in a home that will give him time to adjust plus we believe another abandonment he would not recover.

She has been at the shelter since 10/2000.

This fellow peeked out just in time for this volunteer to take this picture. Joe was found in Goodwin Park on July of 1995. He was only a kitten then and has been at the shelter since. He is unfortunately another one of our frightened kittens that never was selected for adoption because he is so illusive. Joe(like Stacey) took a long time even just for them to show themselves.

Toby came to us in April of 2003 when he was just a kitten. During his stay he became very attached to Fletcher. Fletcher wasn’t expected to live beyond a few weeks. AFOC did not have the heart to separate Toby II and Fletcher. Toby II has become a little bashful. He has been at the shelter for almost 2 years. His chances of being adopted because of his attachment to Fletcher is very slim.
